On the one hand, we’ve got more time than ever before. With the daily commute removed for most and the slow down in our social event calendar, it would be nice to think that most of us can find 30 minutes in each day to upskill. Whether you’re looking to explore creative programmes, or enhance your management skill set, there’s plenty of exciting opportunities out there!

On the other hand however, it’s easy to get weighed down with the pressure of doing something ‘worthwhile’ and research fatigue can take over as we scroll through endless search results. Therefore, we wanted to make things as easy as possible, by compiling a list of free or low-cost resources with an events industry focus that you can tap into whenever you’re ready.

Google Garage

Fundamentals of Graphic Design;

This contains 4 modules, which will take a total of 14 hours. It touches on the principles of graphic design: image making, typography, composition, working with colour and shape. Whether you’re working with a supplier to conceptualise branded signage, assisting a client with their table plan or designing an invite for an online webinar being able to tap into the fundamentals will always be useful.

Business Writing

The events industry is filled with passionate, personable people. In a matter of months, our face to face interactions have diminished and therefore video platforms are proving to successfully facilitate connection. However, we more frequently rely on written communication to convey ideas and explore opportunities. For instance, contacting a supplier or agent with a new idea – without knowing who will be on the other end of the generic e-mail. Or, tackling new responsibilities such as helping with your companies social media or marketing. It all comes down to using the written word convincingly.

Business Writing will power your ability to communicate; delivering them with the clarity and impact they deserve. Remember to keep that individual touch that makes you unique!

In the 21st century, we undoubtedly rely on Google as a source of knowledge outside our own experience. Therefore, this is the perfect tool to highlight today’s most in-demand skills; Data and Tech, Digital Marketing and Career Development. Ensure you filter by length, difficulty and provider, to find the right course to help you upskill as an event professional.
