It has to be our exhibitions the London Summer Event Show and London Christmas Party Show. The exhibitions are unlike any I have worked on before, due to their creativity and attention to detail. they are such a joy to be a part of which means they have to take the joint title of my ‘Best Events’.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNT
When I joined Story I was blown away by how supportive the whole team are of each other. Everyone is busy but they still manage to make time to support each other in any way they can. There is a real sense of being a team in the office and I think this is the secret to why Story continuously delivers fantastic events for our clients.
Keep smiling! It’s such a privilege to be working in such a fun, creative, social industry. Even if at times if it can get a bit stressful, I think its good to stop for a moment and remember what the industry is all about – having fun!
My love of all things theatre related, means I have a special appreciation for the Shakespeare’s Globe! It’s such an iconic London venue steeped in history and to be able to offer it as an event space, especially to companies with a large foreign contingent is great! The team there do a fantastic job at transforming their under-globe space into a magical world at Christmas time and walking down the sweeping stairs into the under-globe (once it is all dressed up) can often take your breath away! They also have a lovely Balcony Room in the Swan restaurant, with views over the Thames, which is great for a more summery event.
PROUDEST EVENT MOMENT
I once ran an event on a yacht for a group of about 30 people. It was a small event but everything that could go wrong with the yacht seemed to; the engine broke in the middle of the ocean, the toilets stopped working and an unpleasant smell was coming from the bilge. I saw this as a challenge to ensure my guests had a great time no matter what. We got the kitchen to whip up some extra delicious treats, moved the dining table to the deck so they could dine under the stars and even put on extra entertainment. After the trip we still managed to get excellent reviews and despite the technical issues didn’t receive even one complaint – I was so proud that in the face of a series of unfortunate events we still managed to pull of an enjoyable event for all of our guests.
