Story sat down with the team at one of our favourite Christmas venue’s, East Wintergarden to hear all about their trend predictions for Christmas 2019.

Transformative theming

2019 will see events take guests on a figurative journey around the world! Kitti Edwards from Event Prop Hire hints that the theme of travel will heavily feature in venue transformations this Christmas:

“Think antique suitcases, nostalgic maps, hot air balloons and iconic landmarks… this festive period we predict a rise in popularity of destination-themed events as creative minds drift away to warmer climates this winter. The most unlikely of event spaces could be reimagined as an Arabian market scene decked with jewel tones, to the white sandy beaches and luscious foliage of Hawaii – where in the world will your Christmas celebration take you?”

Colour Schemes

Societal trends can often trace their origins back to the catwalk. Textures, colour palettes and even make-up styles all play a part in creating desirable Insta-worthy experiences.

As a result, this year we expect to see a prolific use of ‘burnt gold’. Fiery Christmas trees, metallic orange baubles, clementine centrepieces and warmly lit hues will surround Santa at centre-stage.

Sense It

Immersive events are at the height of popularity. They also prove successful in creating lasting, memorable experiences for guests. Sense of smell is always somewhat neglected so we predict that carefully-selected aromas will fill venues and be used to tie the whole event theme together. Why not fill a venue with synthetic Christmas trees (thinking sustainably) and supplement with a gorgeous pine scent, transporting guests to a true winter wonderland!

Flexible festivities

An increasing number of companies are adopting a forward-thinking mindset by valuing family inclusion within their business models. As a result, we predict a rise in Christmas events booked in multiple stages from the day through to the evening. Afternoon sessions in Santa’s Grotto will seamlessly flow into late night champagne celebrations. We’re excited to see more enquiries that cater for their whole workforce and stagger entertainment over a longer period to create a family-friendly feel.

What Story thinks: “East Wintergarden is a stunning glass structure based in London’s Canary Wharf area. As a dedicated event space it is a great blank canvas venue. Christmas events especially work really well here as the glass atrium really gives the feeling of bringing the outside in. They can host from 20 to 500 guests so are perfect for a range of events.”
